La Cala, Calahonda or a hillside setting?
La Cala combines a coastal centre with restaurants and local services. Calahonda, Riviera del Sol and Torrenueva spread inland from the coast, so two properties with the same area label may have very different walks, slopes and views. La Cala Golf and La Cala Hills are separate inland settings; neither should be confused with the centre of La Cala.
The coastal path and beach access
The official Mijas coastal-footpath guide is a useful way to explore the shoreline and its beach connections. Check the nearest entrance, steps and road crossings from the property. Being close to the sea on a map does not guarantee a simple walk there, particularly from the inland side of the A-7.
Schools and regular journeys
Start with the school, activities and services you would actually use, then test the journey from the property at school-run times. Check drop-off queues, road crossings and the return trip. Confirm availability directly with the school.
Property type and budget
Compare current asking prices for the same property type, condition and setting. An apartment with shared facilities, an older villa and a newly built property can involve very different budgets and running costs. Allow separately for purchase costs and any work you plan to carry out.
